Point Higgins Elementary School

Home of The Killer Whales!

Hi everyone.

Welcome to Point Higgins Elementary 2016-2017 school year.  After reading the information in our school website, please don't hesitate to contact me at the school.  You could leave me a message and I will contact you by the next school day.  You can contact me by email at Sam.Hernandez@k21schools.org.  For your information, I arrive very early to the school and you can speak to me about any concerns or questions about your child and/or the PE program.  I would please ask you to sign in at the front office and pick up a name tag before you proceed to the gym.

I will be updating and adding new information about the different skills and sports that we will be practicing during the school year.  I will start the archery program for students in 4th through 6th grade beginning the 2nd week of school.  Fourth and fifth graders will have the opportunity to practice and later participate in the try-outs to select a team for this school year's competition.   The team will consist of 24 archers and the archery practices will be after school in our school gym.  Last year team won third place in the Alaska's the National Archery in the School Program Tournament at Anchorage.  Our students are looking forward to this year's competition.

I will post in my school page, or send home information about after school programs such as basketball, archery, mileage club, running club, etc.  Parents and caregiver, I really need your cooperation to insure that our students wear the proper footwear.  Students need to wear tennis shoes.  Students don't need expensive or new shoes.  I'm asking for tennis shoes that will protect your child's feet in order to avoid injuries.  Flip flops, dress shoes and boots aren't appropriate due to safety concerns.

I will also post a PE pamphlet with information about my vision and goals for our students at Point Higgins Elementary. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.  Let have a very fun and safe year!

 Mr. Hernandez
